After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with my degree in physical therapy, I moved back to my home town of Harrisburg where I have been working ever since. I have had the opportunity to work with excellent teams of therapists, teachers and support staff and love my job. The field of physical therapy is broad and involves training in anatomy, physiology, neuroanatomy, kinesiology, psychology, pathology, therapeutic exercise, intervention techniques, and human development across the life span. Physical therapists use purposeful activities to enhance or restore functional motor skills. In the school settings, a physical therapist collaborates with the educational team and families to help each child fully benefit from their educational environment. This may be accomplished through consultation with the team members and/or through integrated classroom therapy. Some areas a physical therapist may key in on include strength, balance, gross motor play, and postural control- the ability to maintain and change trunk positions with adequate control in various developmental positions. As you know, your child will be very busy learning and doing. If you have questions or concerns, or would like more information or ideas, please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time.
